This leaflet provides design tables for steel beams for door headers (lintels), and suggestions for supports and installation. Wide openings for side wall doors require strong beams to support the roof load at these locations. Lintels of dimension lumber are usually not practical for spans greater than 3.6 m (12 ft), or 4.8 m (16 ft), for lightest roof loads.
