The trend towards larger livestock operations on smaller land holdings, combined with rural urbanization, increased recreational uses of land, and increased public environment sensitivity has greatly increased the incidence of odour complaints. Many livestock operations store large quantities of manure for utilization by crops. To avoid conflicts with neighbours, the livestock industry is faced with new challenges in economic manure management. This leaflet details the measurement of odours, sources of odours, and how to manage them.
